Teachin’ & Learnin’!
Promoting self-sufficiency with bike maintenance is at the core of SBK’s mission. Currently we have the volunteer capacity to offer one public class per month (if you’re interested in helping grow our Education Program, please contact the Education Coordinator).
Repair instruction classes are typically limited to 5 students to ensure plenty of hands-on practice and a quality learning experience. Presentation-style classes are limited to 25 students. We only manage enrollment for classes that are currently posted on the website – we don’t reserve spots for future classes. The fastest way to find out when a class is open for enrollment is to follow us on Instagram or Bluesky.
We do our best to offer a broad spectrum of topics to facilitate a better understanding of the mechanical operation and maintenance of bicycles. Class offerings are limited by the availability and skill levels of our current volunteers, but you are always welcome to submit a request for a specific topic. Requests, questions, and concerns can be directed to the Education Coordinator. For off-site classes, please contact our Outreach Coordinator.
But you don’t have to wait for a class to learn how to fix your bike! Just come to the shop during our open hours and for a $5 cash shop fee, one of our volunteer mechanics can teach you how to do almost anything you want to know. For some people our DIY service is even better than a class, because you are being taught one-on-one as it relates to your specific bike. Learn more about DIY here!
