Fixing Flats for LGBTQIA+ Folks and Womxn

Fixing Flats for LGBTQIA+ Folks and Womxn

When & Where: Saturday, June 14, 10 AM – Noon, at the Sac Bike Kitchen

Cost: FREE!

RSVP: classes@sacbikekitchen.org. Enrollment is limited to LGBTQIA+ folks and womxn.

Don’t let a flat slow you down during Pride! This entry-level, hands-on class will teach you:

  • Tips for preventing flats and figuring out why they happened
  • How to fix a flat tire on the road (tips for fixing at home also covered)
  • What to carry on your bike so that you can avoid getting stranded
  • Safety tips for any roadside repairs

If you have your own bike, we encourage you to bring it, but you may also practice on one of our shop bikes. NO experience is necessary – this class is specifically for beginners! To ensure this class is a safe and empowering space, enrollment is limited to LGBTQIA+ and womxn.

  • The purpose of all SBK classes is to teach you how to perform bicycle repairs. Therefore, we cannot be held responsible for any damage your bike may incur during the class nor can we guarantee that you will have a functioning bike at the end of the class, especially if your bike was not functioning properly prior to the class.
  • We have experience working with a variety of bicycles, but not all of them! If you surprise us with an exotic machine we’ve never seen before, we’ll be happy to take a look at it and may even want to take some pictures, but we can’t guarantee we’ll know what’s best for it mechanically.

Sac Bike Swap Meet!

SBK is partnering with SABA and Community Shop Class to put on a huge May is Bike Month Bike Swap! No pre-registration required to get a space; just show up with your $10 (cash) and you’re good to go!

When: Saturday, May 24th, 9am-12pm

Where: Community Shop Class @ 3818 Stockton Blvd.

Why: BIKE STUFF!

Want to know how to tell if a bike is a good deal and how much work it might need to be safe to ride? Want to work on your bike at the Bike Kitchen, but don’t know where to start? We’ll cover how to evaluate a bike and how to get the most out of the resources the Bike Kitchen offers–whether you’re just starting out or are ready to tackle more advanced projects during our DIY hours.

  1. This is not a hands-on repair class. Instead, we’ll be providing beverages and sharing tips on how to achieve your project goals during DIY hours, no matter your skill or experience level. We’ll also chat about volunteering at the Kitchen and our 2nd Saturday concert series which kicks off that night!
