Teachin’ & Learnin’!
Promoting self-sufficiency with bike maintenance is at the core of SBK’s mission. Currently we have the volunteer capacity to offer one free public class per month (if you’re interested in helping grow our Education Program, please contact the Education Coordinator).
Repair instruction classes are typically limited to 5 students to ensure plenty of hands-on practice and a quality learning experience. Presentation-style classes are limited to 25 students. We only manage enrollment for classes that are currently posted on the website – we don’t reserve spots for future classes. The fastest way to find out when a class is open for enrollment is to follow us on Instagram or Bluesky.
The SBK offers a broad spectrum of classes, seminars and workshops to facilitate a better understanding of the mechanical operation and maintenance of bicycles. Classes have been known to include:
- Basic Maintenance classes
- Target specific classes (i.e. derailleur adjustment, bottom bracket and wheel hub servicing)
- Frame and fork alignment
- Requested classes (i.e. Sturmey Archer 3 speed hub rebuilding)
Questions and concerns can be directed to the Education Coordinator. For off-site classes, please contact our Outreach Coordinator.
But you don’t have to wait for a class to learn how to fix your bike! Just come to the shop during our open hours and for a $5 cash shop fee, one of our volunteer mechanics can teach you how to do almost anything you want to know. For some people our DIY service is even better than a class, because you are being taught one-on-one as it relates to your specific bike. Learn more about DIY here!

UPDATE: This class is currently full! Keep an eye on our website for future offerings.

The purpose of all SBK classes is to teach you how to perform bicycle repairs. Therefore, we cannot be held responsible for any damage your bike may incur during the class nor can we guarantee that you will have a functioning bike at the end of the class, especially if your bike was not functioning properly prior to the class.
-
We have experience working with a variety of bicycles, but not all of them! If you surprise us with an exotic machine we’ve never seen before, we’ll be happy to take a look at it and may even want to take some pictures, but we can’t guarantee we’ll know what’s best for it mechanically.
