Fixing Flats and Routine Maintenance Class!

THIS CLASS IS NOW FULL. Keep an eye on this page for future class announcements!

————————————————————————————————————————-

Join us for our entry-level, hands-on maintenance class that will teach you how to fix flat tires and perform routine maintenance procedures to keep your bike’s parts in top shape! The skills you learn in the 2-hour class will help you:

  • Fix a flat tire via tube replacement or patching, along with learning the tools you need to fix a flat on the road (and avoid getting stranded!).

  • Clean and lubricate your drivetrain to extend its life

  • Know which key areas to periodically check on your bicycle to catch potential problems before they leave you stranded.

No experience is necessary. If you have your own bicycle we encourage you to bring it, but you may also use one of our shop bikes.

Class Location and Date:
Monday, 11/20/2017, 6:30pm-8:30pm

Cost to Attend:
FREE (excluding parts if applicable)

Other Things to Know:
  • The purpose of all SBK classes is to *teach* you how to perform bicycle repairs. Therefore, we cannot be held responsible for any damage your bicycle may incur during the class nor can we guarantee that you will have a functioning bicycle at the end of the class, especially if your bicycle was not functioning properly prior to the class.
  • We have limited experience working with a variety of bicycles, but not all of them! If you surprise us with some exotic machine we’ve never seen before we’ll be happy to take a look at it and may even want to take some pictures, but we can’t guarantee we’ll know what’s best for it mechanically.

Great! Please RSVP to classes@sacbikekitchen.org

WTF (Women, Trans, Femme) Night Ghost Ride

Since it’s getting dark earlier and it’s almost Halloween, this month’s WTF night will be a Ghost Ride! There will be no shop time this month so we can start the ride before it gets too dark.

Join us Sunday, October 29th, as our WTF Coordinator, Rachael, gives a guided bike tour through the spookiest places in town while dressed as a Ghostbuster!

Meet at the shop at 6pm; we will ride out at 6:30pm to visit several sites in downtown Sacramento that are rumored to be haunted. At each location, Rachael will read the accounts of spooks sighted. The ride will end back at the Bike Kitchen.

Please feel free to wear costumes and, by all means, do not forget to bring your lights! In fact, the more lights the better!!!  RSVPs are not necessary but you can RSVP on our Facebook invite if you like!

Not-so-secret Saturday Sale

Pre-shift wheel and tire sale this Saturday, October 28th, 10am-12pm!  Select wheels* and tires will be brought out to the parking lot and sold cheap while supplies last.

Wheels = $1 each

Tires = 2 for $1

*Please note: $1 wheels are all in the “needs work” category—may need truing or a hub rebuild, etc.—but are in good shape otherwise.

CLOSED Saturday 10/7/17

Due to lack of available volunteers, we will not be open this Saturday, October 7th. Unfortunately, this is the reality of a volunteer-run space. If this makes you unhappy, consider becoming a Volunteer–it’s the BEST!!!

SBK will resume regular shop hours Tuesday, October 10th at 6pm.

CLOSED TONIGHT – 10/4/17

Sorry for the late notice folks, but the Wednesday shift will not be opening tonight, October 4th, due to the manager of the night falling ill and no one else being available to cover.  Unfortunately, this is the reality of a volunteer-run space. If this makes you unhappy, consider becoming a Volunteer–it’s the BEST!!!

Also, as a reminder, due to our monthly staff ride, we are not going to be open tomorrow night, Thursday, October 5th. SBK will resume regular shop hours on Friday, October 6th, at 10am.
